About Us
For 100 years, the Connecticut Public Health Association has been committed to improving the quality of the public health profession and advocating for policies and programs that promote health and prevent disease. Our members, representing a wide variety of disciplines, are united in the goal of protecting and promoting the public's health.
CPHA has invested its advocacy and education resources in key areas of public health such as Public Health Infrastructure, Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities, Health Literacy, Universal Health Care, Environmental Health, and Disease Prevention. CPHA is continually growing to meet the state's public health priorities as they change and evolve over time.
The CPHA Vision Statement
To make each generation of Connecticut healthier than the last.
The CPHA Mission Statement
To provide statewide leadership for the promotion of health and the prevention of disease through communication, advocacy, education, research, and professional and workforce development.
This is accomplished through
Professional Development and Education/Networking
Join public health professionals from across the state for meetings, panel discussions, and workshops. Take advantage of numerous networking opportunities with your peers to expand your professional network. Frequent educational workshops offer continuing education for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) and Master Certified Health Education Specialists (MCHES) credits.
Public Health Advocacy
CPHA offers trainings for public health students and professionals on how to become advocates for legislation and policy that will advance health equity. We track state and federal public health bills throughout the legislative session, and submit oral and written testimony.
Mentorship
Since 2007, CPHA’s Mentors on Request (MOR) has connected public health organizations with educational institutions to prepare youth and young adults for community service, and careers in public health. As of 2017, the MOR has grown to 45 public health organizational members that provide a continuum of experiential learning to students: from classroom presentations on timely public health topics to job shadowing and internships.
Communications
